The online professional identity assignment was a real eye opener for me! I didn't know there were so many people in the world with the exact same first and last name as me. Well, there is a student at NC State University that has the exact same first, middle and last name as I do, and our moms even have a similar first name. We both came in the same year, so some of our paperwork got a little mixed up because nobody knew that there were two of the "same" people. Once she was in one of my math courses and our final grades even got mixed up at the end. That taught me the importance of making a name for yourself, a positive one, and one that people will remember, whether you share the same name or not. Your professional identity, good or bad is very important and I am going to make sure I begin to think about some of the things I publically post on the web. I don't want something I did online to hinder me from getting a job.
Comment:Good start here, Brittany -- both in terms of surveying your digital footprint and beginning to think about online professional identity! While privacy settings are important, as you suggest, I hope the seminar has given you additional ideas for further crafting your online professional identity this semester and that you will continue to craft your identity going forward! Best, Dr. Y
